Church Planting in North America is a primary focus for the Church of the Lutheran Brethren over the next decade. Below is information about two locations, followed by articles related to the topic of church planting.
Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Pasadena, California took the initiative to contact Regional Pastor Stan Olsen regarding the need to restart the congregation because of decreasing attendance.
This resulted in the formation of a Transitional Leadership Team (TLT) to carry out the restart. Rev. Olsen selected a team consisting mainly of people from the three Lutheran Brethren congregations in the area.
The TLT developed a vision statement for the restart church, together with a job description for the new pastor. Rev. Olsen led the search for a pastor, which eventually led to Kyle Sears.
Kyle Sears is reaching out to the community and forming a new congregation, which has been named Redemption Church.
Watford City, ND
As the oil boom began in Western North Dakota, several Lutheran Brethren families found themselves in Watford City, ND, with a growing love for the people in the area. After much prayer and conversation, these families decided to start worshiping together, calling themselves Living Faith Church. After several years without a pastor, with encouragement and support from three surrounding Lutheran Brethren congregations, Living Faith LB Church called Pastor Bob Lawson as their pastor. Please keep Living Faith in your prayers as they continue to reach out to their rapidly growing community.
